Wigeon is a normal width, regular contrast, serif typeface for display use on packaging or signage. In the Fall of 2023 I took a type design
intensive at The Cooper Union with designer and instructor, Troy Leinster. I drew Wigeon after looking through specimens of
Wood Type from the late 19th, early 20th century.
When I had wrapped up the design, I was searching for a clever and engaging way to promote the typeface. What I landed on was the idea of developing a memory game in which every letter of the alphabet would be represented with a word and accompanied by an illustration. Each set contains 27 pairs (2 x 26 + a ‘wild card’ pair = 54 cards). When all 54 cards have been laid out, upside down, each player has a chance to pick a pair. Players take turns until all of the pairs have been drawn. The player with the most cards wins.
